The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum is the nation's official memorial to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. It is a Presidential Library administered by the National Archives & Records Administration and supported, in part, by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, a non-profit organization.

Research Room Internship, 13-RR-01

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum is interested in hiring an intern to provide reference assistance in the Library's reading room. The intern will assist professional reference staff in responding to research requests and support other aspects of reference work including preservation, database management, digitization, as well as other duties as necessary. A commitment of at least two days a week is required.

Candidates must be US citizens currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in archival studies, history, or public history. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $1,400 (full time, 5 days/week) or $560 (part time, 2 days/week), paid on the 15th of the month. Summer internships start June 15th and end August 14th. There may be the possibility to re-apply for an internship for the fall semester. The archives are open Monday through Friday.

Summer Oral History Internships Available

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is currently seeking applicants for full or part time oral history internship positions in our Archives Processing and Digitization Unit. The Oral History Program is one of the oldest continuing activities of the John F. Kennedy Library, with a collection containing over 1,200 interviews. After orientation with institutional processing and editing procedures, and under close supervision, the oral history intern will have the opportunity to review, edit, format, identify content, and provide structure and access points to the transcripts of individual interviews though the creation of table of contents and indices with the goal of digitization and eventual posting online through the Library's website.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in archival studies or public history. Previous experience processing archival materials is preferred. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $1,400 (full time, 5 days/week) or $560 (part time, 2 days/week), paid on the 15th of the month. Summer internships start May 15th and end August 14th.

    The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is currently seeking applicants for full or part time processing internship positions in our Archives Processing and Digitization Unit. Interns will participate in a wide variety of projects under the direction of professional archivists. Students have the opportunity to gain career-relevant archival experience in a Presidential Library while contributing to the work of the institution.

    After orientation with institutional processing procedures, and under close supervision, archival interns will have the opportunity to arrange, describe, re-house, and preserve archival materials within the Library's collections. Interns will be expected to work both independently as well as in teams with other graduate-level interns. In addition, interns may expect to learn about other levels of archival description including basic intellectual control and inventory and transfer of non-textual materials to appropriate departments, as well as exposure to the Library's new digital initiative.

    Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in archival studies or public history. Previous experience processing archival materials is preferred.     Summer Audiovisual Digitization Internship Available

    The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is currently seeking applicants for full or part time audiovisual digitization internship positions in our Archives Processing and Digitization Unit. The intern will inventory and catalog moving image and audio materials and assist with quality control of digitized moving image materials. The intern may also assist with some of the following: prepare and pack audiovisual materials for shipment to vendors for digitization, embed metadata in digital files, and convert digital files from master formats to distribution formats. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining digital experience in an archives setting. Basic knowledge of digital audio editing software and nonlinear video editing software is desired, and experience handling sound and/or moving image media is helpful.

    Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in archival studies or public history or a program in media arts with a strong audiovisual focus. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $1,400 (full time, 5 days/week) or $560 (part time, 2 days/week), paid on the 15th of the month. Summer internships start May 15th and end August 14th.

    The John F. Interns will prepare, scan, and catalog archival photographic negatives from our White House Photograph collection. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining digital experience in an archives setting. Basic knowledge of Photoshop is desired, and knowledge of photography and/or imaging science is helpful.

    Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in archival studies or public history. Previous experience processing archival materials is preferred.     The Staff Accountant is responsible for:
      Qualifications: This person must have solid accounting knowledge, with a B.S. in Accounting, along with 1-2 years of experience. This person must be proficient in Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Access, etc.), the Internet and experience with the non-profit software package, Blackbaud, would be a plus. In addition, this person must be detail oriented and able to prioritize tasks well and work with various managers. Organizational skills, self-motivation and a positive attitude are key to this role.

      The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is dedicated to the memory of our nation's thirty-fifth president and to all those who through the art of politics seek a new and better world.

      The institution collects materials that relate to the life and times of John F. Kennedy, the 35th U.S. President. This includes the collections (textual documents, audiovisual items, and museum artifacts) of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Kennedy, as well as over 600 other collections including Kennedy family members, authors, politicians, and individuals and organizations who worked for, with, or because of John F. Kennedy. The John F. Kennedy Library also houses the Ernest Hemingway Collection and John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Oral History Programs.

    • Bi-Weekly processing of payroll, including administration of time records of staff (including interns) and the proper processing of new hires and terminations.
    • Monthly financial closing process, including preparation of entries and posting to the general ledger
    • Monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including cash accounts
    • Monthly analysis of certain accounts, both repetitive reconciliations (i.e. development versus accounting revenue) and those requested by the CFO
    • Monthly preparation of financial reporting packages to be distributed to senior staff 
    • Coordination with the accounting assistant to ensure that accounts payable and cash receipts are processed correctly. 
    • Preparation of grant reporting requirements
    • Preparation of reports for staff compensation matters, along with health care and flexible spending record keeping
    • Assist in the annual audit process and tax information gathering process.
    • Special projects as requested by the CFO
