Kennedy’s remarks during a dinner at The Breakers estate in Newport, Rhode Island held in honor of the America’s Cup crews hosted by Australian Ambassador to the United States Sir Howard Beale, KBE. In his speech President Kennedy makes a toast to the crews of the Gretel and the Weatherly, describes sporting contests as beneficial to international relations, and characterizes the historical relationship between Australia and the United States as a friendship built upon a common commitment to the sea.
