Materials in this folder include a telegram, memoranda, and correspondence between President John F. Kennedy, Assistant Special Counsel to the President Lee C. White, various members of the White House staff, and individual citizens concerning civil rights demonstrations, incidents of discriminatory employment practices, and efforts to recruit members of varied races, religions, and ethnicities for federal employment. The folder also contains a report entitled “The Study of Equal Employment Opportunities in Selected Industrial Plants” submitted by the Survey Research Center of the Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan and the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
