Hand-carved and painted wood Tern standing on a base of driftwood.  The Tern is a large, gull-like bird with black cap, large bill of brilliant red with dark tip, silvery gray back and wings with a white body.

This carved coastal bird was given to President Kennedy by his wife Jacqueline Kennedy.  It was displayed by the President in his Oval Office of the White House.
