Margo Balboni, first place winner in the 2009 Profile in Courage Essay Contest, and her nominating teacher, Mary Ellen Hart, were honored by Caroline Kennedy at the Profile in Courage Award Ceremony on May 19, 2009. Margo’s winning essay on Baltimore City Councilman Nicholas D’Adamo was selected from 1,464 submissions representing forty-nine states. The Contest invites high school students to write an essay on the political courage of a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1956.
