House of Representatives Files
The House Files contain material generated during John F. Kennedy's three terms as a congressman from the 11th District of Massachusetts. As previously noted, it is believed that this body of material is not the complete set of files produced from 1947 through 1952 .(Mr. Dave Powers remembers, in particular, the mountains of mail received daily by the Congressman on the two issues of McCarthy and Furculo, and can vividly recall the secretary on the porch at Hyannis Port answering mail and watching correspondence blow away in the ocean breeze) Most of the House papers came from the Boston Office and were of a patronage nature, reflecting Congressman Kennedy's activity during this period.
The Boston Office General Correspondence files contain some material dating from as early as 1938 and as late as 1955. Materials on the 1946 campaign are located in the Boston Office General Correspondence, in the following Campaigns series, and in the Personal Papers of John F. Kennedy. There are no groups of materials on the congressional campaigns of 1948 and 1950, but one can find perhaps an occasional letter of congratulations or thanks. The scrapbooks and the speech files contain some material on all the campaigns.

Series 1.1.2. General and Legislative Files, 1951-1952.
Boxes 68-72, 5 boxes
Arrangement: .
An alphabetical file, divided into "General" and "Legislative" correspondence. General correspondence includes a variety of letters ranging from requests for autographs and announcements of class trips to Washington, to letters about important domestic and international problems and issues. Legislative correspondence includes public viewpoints on certain bills, and in some cases Kennedy has answered giving his own opinions on legislation. All the correspondence has been filed by correspondents' names, thus it is difficult to find specific subjects in the files. There are separate listings for Private Bills, Rent Control, Requests for Government Publications, and Requests for Funds. Researchers should note that letters "A-H" and "S-Z" are missing from the files.
