An Inventory of Personal Papers and Oral Histories
At the John F. Kennedy Library
National Archives and Records Administration
The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Collection of the John F. Kennedy Library is the repository for personal materials that relate to the individual and group experiences of those who served as Peace Corps Volunteers from its inception in 1961 to the present. It consists of papers, such as letters, diaries, and journals, representative sets of photographs, oral history interviews, and other items of unique archival value.
The individual collections of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) constitute an artificial collection that was created when archivists at the John F. Kennedy Library began soliciting materials from RPCVs in 1989. Individual RPCVs have, over the course of time, donated materials concerning their personal experience in one of the more than seventy different countries where Peace Corps volunteers were—and still are today—active on tour of duty. This collection has a unique organization because it continually expands; additional materials come in on a regular basis.
