The Personal Papers of Thomas Bowman

Biographical Note
Thomas M. Bowman attended graduate school at Boston College. In 1980, he worked at the Kennedy Library organizing the 1962 Good-Will Trip Papers of Robert Kennedy. After studying these papers, as well as secondary sources, Bowman learned of the Interagency Youth Committee, organized by Robert Kennedy upon his return from the Good-Will trip. Bowman decided to address the origins, specifics, and results of this Committee in his thesis; however, it is unclear whether or not Bowman completed his thesis.

Collection Overview
This collection consists of papers used by Thomas M. Bowman in preparation for his thesis addressing the origins, specifics, and results of the Interagency Youth Committee [IAYC] organized by Robert F. Kennedy following his return from the 1962 Good-Will trip. The IAYC was established as a result of Robert F. Kennedy’s “concern for the youth” of the nations he visited during this trip. The Committee was setup under the control of the Department of State with members from the Agency for International Development (AID), United States Information Agency (USIA), the Department of Defense (DOD), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the Office of Education. The collection consists of correspondence with Thomas Bowman; Interagency Youth Committee charters, annual reports, memoranda, and related materials; White House press releases and memoranda; Bowman’s research materials; and press clippings.
