Press officer, government official. Press secretary to the Governor of Maine (1958-1960); executive, General Services Administration (1961-1980); advance man for President Kennedy's trip to Texas (1963). Copies of papers concerning his work in the 1960 Presidential campaign, and President Kennedy's November 1963 trip to Texas.

Collection Overview
The personal papers of John E. Byrne is a fragment of his papers from the years 1959–1963, during which time Mr. Byrne served first as press secretary to the governor of Maine and then as director of information for the United States General Services Administration. The collection contains correspondence and newspaper clippings concerning John F. Kennedy’s campaign for the presidency as well as other Democrats running for state and national office, and material on the trip of President Kennedy to Texas, November 21-22, 1963, including itinerary, schedules, seating, and other travel arrangements, and identification of personnel responsible for various phases and activities, as well as five photographs from the trip.

Correspondence and newspaper clippings concerning John F. Kennedy’s campaign for the presidency as well as other Democrats running for state and national office. All of the materials are copies which were made by Mr. Byrne.

Material on the trip of President Kennedy to Texas, November 21-22, 1963. Includes itinerary, schedules, seating, and other travel arrangements, and identification of personnel responsible for various phases and activities. Also included are five photographs from the trip. The majority of the material are copies which were made by Mr. Byrne. A copy of Prologue  magazine which contains an article written by Mr. Byrne about the Texas Trip was added at a later date.
