Biographer. Co-author (with William Eaton), Reuther (1970). Research materials: notes, tapes, and transcripts of interviews with labor and public officials including Walter Reuther, Victor Reuther, George Meany, Arthur Goldberg, and others.

Usage Restrictions
According to the deposit agreement signed January 1973, researchers may take notes from these interviews, however they may not quote from or cite any tape or transcript except with the written permission of Mr. Cormier and Mr. Eaton.

The Papers of Frank Cormier (1927-1994) and William Eaton (1930-2005)


Biographical Note
Frank Cormier was born August 21, 1927, in Worcester, MA, the son of E. Edmund and Catherine (Markley) Cormier. He attended Northwestern University and received a B.S. in 1950, and an M.S. in 1952. On October 11, 1952, Cormier married Margot Anne Bumiller. They had five children: Elizabeth, Anne, John, William, and Michael. Cormier began his career in journalism as an Associated Press reporter in Chicago, IL (1951-1954), then transferred to Washington, DC (1954-1962), and later became a White House correspondent, (1962-1994). He was a member of the White House Correspondents Association (president, 1967-68). In 1970, Cormier and William J. Eaton published the book Reuther (Prentice-Hall). Mr. Cormier died due to complications resulting from a nerve disorder, February 9, 1994, in Fairfax, VA.

William J. Eaton was born in Chicago, IL in 1930. He attended Northwest University's School of Journalism, graduating with a BA in 1951, and a Master's in 1952.  Eaton's first marriage was to Marilyn Myers. He later married Carole Kennon with whom he had a daughter, Sally.  Eaton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he held the rank of sergeant.  Eaton began his journalism career with the Chicago Daily News, and from 1966 to 1976, was their correspondent in Washington, DC.  While at the Chicago Daily News, Eaton won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting in 1970 for his articles about President Richard Nixon's unsuccessful nomination to the Supreme Court.  In 1976, he began working as The Los Angeles Times correspondent in Washington, DC.  From 1984 to 1988, Eaton served as Moscow bureau chief for The Los Angeles Times. Eaton was a long time president of the National Press Club.  He retired in 1994 and became the curator of the Humphrey Fellowship program at the University of Maryland.  William J. Eaton died August 23, 2005, in Potomac, Md. He was 74.
