National Security Action Memoranda

Document images from the Presidential Papers of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, National Security Files

The images described below were scanned from the National Security Files of President John F. Kennedy. They comprise 272 memoranda directed to various government agencies and staff from either President Kennedy himself or McGeorge Bundy, his national security adviser. Image size averages 120K and the quality varies.  Because the original memoranda were sent to the individuals to whom each memorandum was directed, most of the scanned documents were made from onionskin carbon copies of the originals.  Some carbon copies were so deteriorated that they were replaced in the files by photocopies. These are so marked. Some images are as yet unavailable due to classification restrictions. They will be scanned and made available as they are declassified.
