Arthur M(eier) Schlesinger, (1917-2007) historian, government official, Special Assistant to the President for Latin American Affairs (1961-63); author, A Thousand Days (1965), and Robert Kennedy And His Times (1978).
In 1960, Schlesinger joined the staff of John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign working as a speechwriter. He was appointed Special Assistant to the President by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 and held the position until 1964. Schlesinger served as a trustee of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial, and was a member of the board of directors of the Harry S. Truman Library Institute, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute. Arthur Schlesinger died February 28, 2007.
