Engineer, educator, government official. Special Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (1961-1964); Director, Office of Science and Technology (1961-64). Jerome Wiesner served as chair of the President’s Science Advisory Committee, working on issues such as military technology, disarmament, and scientific education and research. Dr. Wiesner’s work influenced the 1963 treaty to ban all but underground nuclear testing. After serving as President Johnson’s science advisor, Dr. Wiesner went on to serve as MIT’s president.
