A high school group is introduced to video on civil rights in the Oval Office exhibit.

Docents at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum facilitate museum learning for visitors of all ages including families, students and adults.  Docent duties may include, but are not limited to, conducting museum highlights programs, giving informal gallery talks, and engaging visitors in hands-on museum activities.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have an interest in working with people, and be able to attend required training sessions.  Experience or education in history, political science, or teaching is helpful, but is not required.  The position involves standing for extended periods of time. 

Training is provided by education and curatorial staff, and includes historical content of the museum and interpretive techniques such as storytelling, asking good questions and other methods for engaging various museum audiences.  After training is complete, the volunteer commitment is one year.
