A Tribute to Barbara Jordan and Shirley Chisholm
On Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 16, California Congresswoman Barbara Lee, National Public Radio’s senior news analyst Cokie Roberts, and former Texas Governor Ann Richards will discuss the extraordinary political careers of two African-American women, Barbara Jordan and Shirley Chisholm. Veteran television and documentary producer Callie Crossley will moderate.
The forum will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Stephen Smith Center at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston. All forums are free and open to the public. For reservations, please call (617) 514-1643.
Celebrate! Free Performance for Children: Underground Railway Theater
Also on Monday, January 16, 2006, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum will host the Underground Railway Theater for a special free Celebrate! performance for children. The Underground Railway Theater will present their show entitled “Are You Ready, My Sister?” which recounts the story of Harriet Tubman and the Quaker women who helped bring more than 300 fugitives to freedom. Using a giant patchwork quilt as a guide, the Underground Railway group incorporates shadow puppets, spirituals from the slave era as well as live theater in this production.
This performance will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Stephen Smith Center at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston. I Have a Dream Speech
The Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will also feature Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech in its entirety on Monday, January 16, 2006. Screenings will begin at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. General admission to the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library is $10.00. Admission for seniors over the age of 62 and college students is $8.00, and for children ages 13-17, $7.00. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.
