Boston, MA- The Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will honor our nation’s war heroes this Veterans Day by giving all United States Veterans and active military personnel free admission to the Museum. Veterans and active military personnel will be given free admission from Veterans Day - November 10, through Sunday November 12, 2006.
On Saturday November 11, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum will host a special Kennedy Library Forum – Operation Homecoming. U.S. soldiers who have returned from Iraq and have participated in Operation Homecoming, a program created by the National Endowment for the Arts to encourage returning soldiers to write about their wartime experiences, will read from their works. Their poems, essays, and stories will be published by Random House in a literary anthology. Andrew Carroll, editor of the anthology and author of the best selling “War Letters”, will moderate. This forum will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Stephen Smith Center at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston. All forums are free and open to the public. The Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library features 25 inspiring, multimedia exhibits and period settings from the White House that create a stirring account of President Kennedy’s thousand days in office and offer an exciting “you are there” experience. The Museum’s newest exhibition, “JFK in World War II,” is displayed in the Museum’s theatre lobby. “JFK in World War II” features a large selection of never-before-seen materials from John F. Kennedy’s military service in the U.S. Navy, including one of the actual logbooks from the USS PT 109 and original sketches created by then Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy on his personal stationery to illustrate the collision of PT 109 and the Japanese destroyer Amagiri.
General Admission to the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library is $10.00. Admission for seniors over the age of 62 and college students with appropriate identification is $8.00, and for children ages 13-17, $7.00. Children ages 12 and under are admitted for free.
The Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the exceptions of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Library is located in the Dorchester section of Boston, off Morrissey Boulevard, next to the campus of the University of Massachusetts/Boston. Parking is free.
