Quinlin, recently named as one of the Country’s Top 100 Irish Americans by Irish American Magazine,   is founder and president of the Boston Irish Tourism Association, a group formed in 2000 to promote Irish culture in Massachusetts. The group has created a variety of tourist literature, including the Irish Massachusetts Travel Guide, Irish Food & Culture Guide, Boston Irish Heritage Trail walking map, and a genealogy booklet, Finding Your Irish Roots in Massachusetts.  Quinlin previously worked in scholarly publishing, academia and government, serving as advisor to Boston Mayor Raymond L. Flynn, and as spokesman for Boston’s Irish Famine Memorial.  His essays have appeared in the PBS book, The Irish in America, and the New England Encyclopedia.  He is author of Irish Boston (Globe Pequot Press, 2004) and editor of Classic Irish Stories (Lyons Press, 2005). He lives in Milton, Massachusetts with his wife Colette and son Devin.

Irish Boston: A Lively Look at Boston’s Colorful Irish Past charts the Irish experience in Boston from the 1730s to the present time, relying on artists, athletes, war heroes, politicians and poets to tell this illustrious story.  From the early Irish Presbyterians and the Famine Irish generation to the Camelot years of the Kennedy Family, Irish Boston examines the trials and triumphs of Boston’s most distinct ethnic community.   The book also includes a handy Visitors Guide listing historical sites, annual events, pubs and gift shops, academic programs, genealogy sources and music and dance venues throughout greater Boston.

Michael Quinlin will sign copies of his book on Saturday June 3, from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Copies of Irish Boston: A Lively Look at Boston’s Colorful Irish Past will be available for purchase at the Museum Store at the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.  This special event is being held in conjunction with the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library’s new exhibit, A Journey Home – John F. Kennedy and Ireland. This new exhibit will be on display through the spring of 2007.  For more information call (866) JFK-1960.
