On Tuesday, January 20, 2009 the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum will mark the inauguration of President Barack Obama, by offering free viewing of inaugural events (from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.), including President Obama’s inaugural address, in the Museum’s theater.  In addition, all guests will receive a free commemorative copy of President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address.

 

The Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will be open throughout the day, and paid visitors will the opportunity to experience the new temporary exhibit, Poetry and Power: The Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy, which includes rarely viewed original documents, many of which have never been publicly displayed, that reveal how President Kennedy’s speech was composed and the steps in the drafting process.

 

In addition, Museum visitors will be able to watch President Kennedy’s inaugural address; see the Fitzgerald family Bible on which John F. Kennedy took the presidential oath of office; view the dress, coat, hat and muff worn by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy during John F. Kennedy’s inauguration; and read the handwritten poem drafted by Robert Frost for the inaugural ceremony.

 

General admission to the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library is $12.00; Seniors 62+ and college students - $10.00; Children ages 13-17 - $9.00; Children ages 12 and under - Free.

 

The Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the exceptions of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Library is located in the Dorchester section of Boston, off Morrissey Boulevard, next to the campus of the University of Massachusetts/Boston. Parking is free. There is free shuttle-service from the JFK/UMass T Stop on the Red Line. The Museum is fully handicapped accessible. For more information, call (866) JFK-1960.
