Current Status of Telephone Recordings
All of the Telephone Recordings
deposited in the Kennedy Library have been processed and made
available for research use except as indicated.
Transcripts are imperfect abstracts of spoken conversation, and
erroneous interpretations of recordings are always possible.
Users are strongly urged to check all transcript renditions
against the actual tape recordings.
For additional Telephone Recordings, please see the Telephone
Recordings Addendum.
Certain conventions are used throughout the list of telephone conversations:
a. "JFK," "RFK," and "EMK" are used for John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Edward M. Kennedy, respectively;
b. Other names are given in full, both given name and surname, when they are known or can be deduced from context;
c. Names appearing in brackets are offered with strong reservations, and all name identifications are subject to further research and verification;
d. If a person is identified by given name only in the conversation and the surname cannot be deduced from context, then "[?]" appears in place of the surname.
e. White House operators are unidentified except by the word "Operator;"
f. Only the principal or overriding topics of conversation are noted, and incidental mention of passing topics will not be found in this list.
* Conversations marked with an asterisk are also available as part of a subject area package set which was opened during the 1980s.
