This folder contains telegrams from Department of State officials, including United States Ambassador to Brazil Lincoln Gordon, regarding proposed trips to Brazil in July and November 1962 by President John F. Kennedy and subsequent postponements. Topics include a schedule for the advance security and planning teams; suggested itineraries for President Kennedy; staff designations for coordination between the White House and Brazil; and the form of scope, talking, position, and background papers in preparation for the President’s trip. Also included in this folder is a press release of an exchange of letters between President Kennedy and President of Brazil João Goulart regarding the postponement of the November 1962 trip due to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
