Diana Howard served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uruguay from 1965 to 1967 on a community development project. She participated in a Peace Corps training program during her junior and senior years of college. In Uruguay, Howard worked in the poor areas outside of the capital, Montevideo, and had to learn barrio Spanish. She enjoyed her experience and fell in love with the people, especially the children with whom she worked. Howard also met her husband, got married, and had her first child in Uruguay.
