This folder contains copies and drafts of Senator John F. Kennedy’s remarks upon receiving the 1957 Patriotism Award during Washington Day exercises at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. In his speech the Senator discusses the accomplishments of President George Washington and the origins of George Washington Day, as well as the shared histories of scholars and politicians and a need for greater scholarship in politics. Of note are drafts with notations by Senator Kennedy.
