A prototype of the Alden staRRcar (also known as the self-transit rail and road car), designed by William Alden, rides along a constructed guideway adjacent to a street in Massachusetts. An unidentified person (sitting in the driver's seat of the staRRcar) reads from a newspaper; automobiles sit in traffic in the background. The photograph accompanies a letter from William Alden, President of Alden Self-Transit Systems Corporation, to Dr. Robert A. Nelson, Director of the Office of High-Speed Ground Transportation of the Department of Commerce, dated June 3, 1966. [Notes: Stamp on verso reads, "Photograph by Marvin Richmond, Worcester, Mass. Reorder by number 35377-6."]
