Kennedy presses a gold telegraph key that will remotely explode the first charge of dynamite at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' construction site of the Cordell Hull Dam on the Cumberland River in nearby Carthage, Tennessee. President Kennedy delivered an address at the ceremony to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the university's founding and the 30th anniversary of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
