Boston, MA – Today the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum announced plans to launch a volunteer museum docent program . When the program launches this spring, visitors will be met by docents who will help guide them through the Museum’s 25 multimedia exhibits and period settings. Docents will lead Museum tours, give gallery talks and present hands-on activities to children, adults and school groups.

Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum hosted a celebration for the naturalization of new citizens of the United States at a special ceremony presided over by The Honorable Mark Wolf, United States District Court Judge for the District of Massachusetts. Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of United States Senator John Kerry, and a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Mozambique, made the keynote address during the ceremony.
Boston, MA—The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation today announced that Michael Reed, a junior at Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has won the national John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest for High School Students™. Reed will be honored by Caroline Kennedy during the May 24, 2010 Profile in Courage Award ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston for his prize-winning essay on U.S. Congressman Ken Hechler from West Virginia, who in 1969 defied powerful interests in his coal-producing state to pass legislation protecting the health and safety of miners. Reed will receive a $10,000 award for his first place essay.
Boston, MA – As the nation reflects on the life of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library made available for research a tape recording of a 30-minute White House meeting that took place on May 4, 1963 during which President Kennedy comments on the nation’s civil rights struggle.
This November and December, on six Saturdays, the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum will offer “Sundaes on Saturday at the JFK” for children and families. Visitors can create their own sundaes from ice-cream sundae bar on Saturdays between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Pavilion at the Kennedy Library and Museum. Sundaes are $5.00 for children 12 years and younger and $7 for children 13 and older and for adults.

The JFK Library staff is assessing the damage caused by yesterday's fire. There was water penetration in a few artifact storage rooms, but damage to the collection is minimal and staff worked overnight to stabilize those areas.
Boston Fire Department officials have concluded their investigation of the April 15, 2013 fire at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and have determined that it was “unintentional.” According to the Boston Fire Department, the most likely cause was “careless disposal of smoking material.”

The John F. Kennedy Library and Museum is home to the largest collection of the Nobel Prize-winner’s manuscripts, correspondence, personal papers, and belongings. Annually, an estimated 20 percent of researchers who visit the Kennedy Library access the Hemingway Collection. The awarding of the grant requires that the Kennedy Library Foundation raise a dollar-for-dollar non-Federal matching share.
