Founding Benefactors

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum was built as a national memorial to President Kennedy with private donations from over 36 million people worldwide. Designed and constructed by the private, non-profit John F. Kennedy Library Corporation, the building was formally presented to the American people at its dedication in 1979 and became the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration. With the establishment of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation in 1984, a public-private partnership was forged to support the work and programs of the Kennedy Library.

This partnership has benefited from the extraordinary generosity of individuals and organizations that helped launch and sustain our educational and public service programs. A display honoring the Founding Benefactors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation who made cumulative gifts of $100,000 to more than $1 million over two decades, was dedicated by Caroline Kennedy and Senator Edward M. Kennedy on November 27, 2006 and hangs in the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum's Pavilion.

Their early generosity is an inspiration for all time.
