Physical DescriptionTwo gold panels depicting scenes from the life of Christ. Each panel is divided into 4 scenes in two registers, in bas relief. The left panel depicts the nativity, baptism by St. John, the doctrine of Christ and his miracles. The right panel depicts the last supper, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension. The panels are affixed inside a leather and textile presentation case.
Historical NoteThese panels were given to Jacqueline Kennedy during her visit to the Vatican, January 30, 1966 by Pope Paul VI.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift to Mrs. Kennedy from Pope John XXIII. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in 1974 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
