Physical DescriptionOne napkin from Carrickmacross Lace table setting. Carrickmacross lace is made by printing a pattern on a glazed linen material; the net and then the muslin are placed on top. All are tacked together and a fine cord is taken around the outline of the pattern and couched down into position. The excess fabric is cut away around the outline of the design. The exposed net is then decorated with filling stitches such as double dot, basket, daisy, cobweb, etc.
Historical NoteThis napkin was presented to President John F. Kennedy during his state visit to Ireland in Dublin by the Prime Minister of Ireland, Sean Lemass in June 1963.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift to President and Mrs. Kennedy from Prime Minister Sean LeMass, Prime Minister of Ireland. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
