Description
Sound recording of President John F. Kennedy’s remarks at the ground-breaking ceremonies for the San Luis Dam Project in Los Banos, California. In his speech President Kennedy characterizes the project as an engineering, legislative, and administrative achievement, and discusses how the dam will provide water for farming, power, commerce, irrigation, and recreation. The President also proposes improved outdoor recreation areas, adding seashores to the National Park System, enacting a strong Wilderness Bill and a Youth Employment act, and developing programs to economically convert salt water into fresh water.
