Materials in this folder include telegrams, memoranda, newspaper articles, and correspondence between President John F. Kennedy, Assistant Special Counsel to the President Lee C. White, various members of the White House staff, individual citizens, and school administrators concerning desegregation of educational institutions, discriminatory employment practices, incidents of discrimination against Americans of Mexican descent, and the efforts of women and the Judicial Department in the administration’s civil rights efforts. The folder also contains a petition to the President demanding federal enactment and enforcement of a broad range of civil rights measures, including voting rights, use of public facilities, and equal employment opportunities.
