Folder Description
This folder contains correspondence related to President John F. Kennedy's military service during World War II and his command of the patrol torpedo boat PT 109. The folder includes materials concerning Robert Donovan's book PT 109: John F. Kennedy in World War II, including a draft of the jacket copy. The folder also includes correspondence from Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. and screenwriter Vincent X. Flaherty regarding a PT 109 film; letters arranging the White House visit of A.R. "Reg" Evans, an Australian Coast Watcher who helped rescue the crew of PT 109; and copies of correspondence with Kohei Hanami, Lieutenant Commander of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri, which collided with PT 109 on August 2, 1943.
