Seán Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway’s grandson, presents the 2019 PEN/Hemingway Award to Tommy Orange for There There: A Novel at this ceremony. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen delivers the keynote address. The Kennedy Library is the major repository of Ernest Hemingway’s personal papers. This program is co-presented with PEN America.
 
Runners-up: Akwaeke Emezi’s Freshwater and Ling Ma’s Severance.
Honorable Mentions: Meghan Kenny’s The Driest Season: A Novel and Nico Walker’s Cherry: A Novel.
