President John F. Kennedy visits with A.R. "Reg" Evans (center), an Australian Coast Watcher from New South Wales who, while stationed on the Solomon Islands during World War II, helped rescue the crew of PT 109 (including then-Lieutenant John F. Kennedy). Mr. Evans and Robert Curran (right) hold the painting "The Beach at Gomu" by Norman Baer, depicting Lieutenant Kennedy in a canoe with native islanders in the Solomon Islands.
