Sound recording of the radio program "Face Off." Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy of Massachusetts and Senator Alan K. "Al" Simpson of Wyoming debate illiteracy in the United States and a new program in which college students can volunteer to tutor in local schools and adult education centers in exchange for course credit. Senator Kennedy states that this program, called the Literacy Corps, was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan as part of an omnibus trade bill. The episode aired on Wednesday, November 16, 1988, on the Mutual Broadcasting System.
