President John F. Kennedy (left, holding a letter) greets eleven-year-old Joey Renzi (center, holding President Kennedy's hand) following his tour of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego, California. Joey, who had been blind since shortly after birth, had written to the President using his Braille typewriter to ask if he could meet him during his visit to San Diego. Joey's brother, Johnny Renzi (wearing plaid jacket), and father, Alfred Renzi, stand at right; Governor of California, Edmund G. "Pat" Brown stands at center right.
