In this interview Komer discusses U.S. aid to India and Pakistan and some problems involved with it, including the question of long-term U.S. aid and a shift in focus from Pakistan to India; problems with the Agency for International Development; oil and U.S. policy; U.S. involvement in the Congo; Komer’s meetings with President John F. Kennedy [JFK] and how Komer briefed him; the relations among JFK, Dean Rusk, John Kenneth Galbraith, Adlai E. Stevenson, and McGeorge Bundy; JFK’s interest in India and Pakistan and his attempt at a mediation between the two on Kashmir; and JFK and Algeria and Morocco, among other issues.

This folder contains miscellaneous correspondence and enclosures sent to the Council of Economic Advisers by individuals whose last names begin with the letter C. The material is filed roughly in reverse chronological order according to the date of the carbon copy reply. Items include a financial analysis of the steel industry in 1961; a statement on the President's tax recommendations by the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee; two brochures by Thurman Sensing titled "What is Free Enterprise" and "Who is a Capitalist"; a program from an international symposium on India Since 1947: Her Problems of Progress; and an issue of the Estate and Tax Bulletin of the National Bank of Detroit (vol. 22, no. 10, January 1963).

This folder consists of correspondence collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, from John Kenneth Galbraith, Harvard University Economics Professor and Ambassador to India (1961-1963). Materials mainly represent Galbraith's views and advice on personal matters, political and foreign affairs, and economics. Items include letters recounting Galbraith's experiences and observations on Indian life and government, memorandums on United States economic policy, and a homemade photo album and Christmas card. Of note is correspondence with writer John Steinbeck on his trip to the Soviet Union. A response from President Kennedy is also included.

Also included in this folder is a paper on India’s economic developments and needs titled, “The Indo-American Development Program: The Problems and Opportunities," written by Bowles in 1952 when he was United States Ambassador to India.

Also included in this folder is a copy of a speech given by Schlesinger before the Indian Council of World Affairs in New Delhi, India titled, “Ideology vs. Democracy.”

Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, for the President's News Conference of November 20, 1962 (News Conference 45). Materials primarily consist of department and agency reports, memorandums, and briefing papers for the President on domestic and foreign affairs and national security. Subjects include Cuba and the Cuban Missile Crisis, the economy, and the current situation between India and China. Also included are draft press conference announcements, some with handwritten editorial marks and annotations by the President, and newspaper clippings. Of note is the press conference statement, signed by the President, on Executive Order 11063, which prevented discrimination in housing facilities owned or operated by the federal government.
