In this interview Boutin discusses New Hampshire politics; presidential elections and Democratic National Conventions from 1956 through 1968; various staff members of John F. Kennedy’s [JFK] presidential campaign from 1956 to 1960; JFK’s presidential campaign in several different states; the 1960 presidential primary in New Hampshire; working as the Administrator of the General Services Administration [GSA], including public works projects, federal buildings and sites, reorganization of GSA structure and personnel, and working with Congress and other federal agencies on GSA matters; the National Archives and Records Administration and presidential libraries; the Democratic National Committee during JFK’s Administration; Boutin’s memories of immediately following JFK’s assassination in 1963; tensions between Robert F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson; and “Johnson people” versus “Kennedy people,” among other issues.

Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning President Kennedy's remarks at the dedication of the Delaware-Maryland Turnpike. In his speech the President discusses his administration's transportation policy, and explains how the turnpike symbolizes the partnership between federal and state governments. Materials in this folder include a memorandum of suggested remarks, note cards with handwritten notations by the President, and a press copy of the speech, in addition to a map of the turnpike and a letter from Maryland Governor J. Millard Tawes.

In the speech he discusses issues arising from population growth in urban areas, and a need for redistricting to ensure urban areas are appropriately represented in government. Of note is a draft and letter with notations by the Senator.

Personal and professional papers relating to Shriver’s work as the first director of the Peace Corps, as the first director of the Office of Economic Opportunity, and as United States Ambassador to France. The collection also covers Shriver’s role in John F. Kennedy’s 1960 Presidential campaign, his 1970 bid for governor of Maryland, his 1972 campaign for the Vice Presidency, and his 1976 campaign for the Presidency.
