An unidentified individual standing next to a Rotational Flight Simulator. A letter accompanying this photograph notes that the flight simulator will be delivered to the United States Air Force (USAF) School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base (AFB) in Texas. The photograph was released by the Office of Information at the Aerospace Medical Division. A caption on the verso of the photograph reads: "Office of Information. Aerospace Medical Division (AFSC), Brooks AFB, Texas. November 21, 1963. NEW SPACE SIMULATOR -- This is an actual photograph of the new Rotational Flight Simulator to be delivered late this month to the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB, Texas. It will be housed in the high-bay area of the School's new Bioastronautics-Biodynamics Laboratory -- one of six new buildings dedicated today by President John F. Kennedy. The simulator has motor powered inertia rings mounted on the axis of roll, pitch and yaw. They permit the 10 foot diameter non-transparent fiberglass sphere to rotate at speeds up to 18 rpm. Air-mounted, the simulator is unique in that it provides a much greater freedom of motion for a longer period of time than any currently available simulator. PHOTO: NORTHRUP SPACE LABORATORIES.
