This photograph album, compiled by Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, documents various moments in the lives of the Kennedy family from 1933 to 1936. Photographs capture Rose and her family at their residences in Hyannis Port in Massachusetts, Bronxville in New York, and Palm Beach in Florida; at the beach at The Breakers Hotel and at the Sea Spray Club in Palm Beach; at the Ostrich-Alligator Farm & Zoo in Lantana, Palm Beach County; and at the West Beach Club on Cape Cod. Also of note are photographs of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter celebrations; birthday parties for Eunice Kennedy and Jean Kennedy; a Native American sun dance ceremony in Palm Beach; gymnastics exercises and boxing matches at the Sea Spray Club, in which Robert F. âBobby/Bobâ Kennedy and Edward M. âTedâ Kennedy participated; Jean dressed for her First Communion and Confirmation in Bronxville; Tedâs picnic on the lawn of the familyâs home in Bronxville with a friend identified as âRitaâ; a visit to a warship in Provincetown, Massachusetts; Jean dressed in a Scottish tartan and kilt; and other activities including swimming, sailing, sledding, horseback riding, football, and other sports. Other Kennedy family members and friends pictured in photographs include Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr.; Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.; John F. âJackâ Kennedy; Rosemary Kennedy (referred to as âRoseâ in original captions); Kathleen âKickâ Kennedy; Patricia âPatâ Kennedy; Roseâs parents, John F. âHoney Fitzâ Fitzgerald and Mary Josephine Hannon Fitzgerald; Roseâs sister, Agnes Fitzgerald Gargan, and brother-in-law, Joseph F. Gargan, Sr.; Roseâs niece, Marion Eunice Fitzgerald, and nephew, John F. âJackâ Fitzgerald (the children of her brother, Thomas A. Fitzgerald); nanny to the Kennedy children, Katherine âKikooâ Conboy; governess to the Kennedy children, Alice Cahill; Edward E. Moore and Mary Moore; James Roosevelt, son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Betsey Cushing Roosevelt; Jean K. Webber; Eileen Morell; Frances âSancyâ Falvey; Mary OâKeefe; Olive Cawley; Nancy Tenney; and Jackâs Choate School classmate, Thomas Morgan Schriber. Others identified in original captions include, âFrancis,â âTommy,â âGilbert,â âMiss Hood,â âJeanâs godmotherâ (âMrs. Greeneâ), and âMary.â All leaves contain original handwritten captions in white ink, although the handwriting does not belong to Rose and the writer has not been determined. This photograph album contains 322 photographic prints, two photographic postcards, and one photograph fragment.
